Run The Path 10k

The only club sponsored 10k, this is 2nd to last club race each year. This chip timed 10k is the replacement for the Canal Connection 10k. Originally to be ran on the I&M Canal, due to Covid pandemic and issues with getting the proper permits, former club President Bob Rehn was instrumental in getting it moved to the countryside in his home county of Putnam on the same course that he hosted his wintery fun run of the FatAss 50k in January each year for many years. Shortly after the inaugural year in Putnam County (2021), Bob passed from covid. RTP 10k is held in his memory each year starting and finishing at the Putnam County Junior High School in McNabb, IL. As a staple of his FatAss 50K chili was served afterwards to warmup from a run that may have taken place in below freezing temps or even blowing snow. That tradition has continued each year. As he said, the FatAss 50k was not for the wimpy.

Held on the 1st Sunday of November, the same weekend we change our clocks, it is an out and back 10k on nicely paved county roads surrounded by beautiful country scenery. It is possible to see deer and eagles while running. Not to mention fall foliage change if the timing is right. The course is a mix of hills and flat areas. You will encounter the toughest hill in the return at approx. mile 5. Makes you feel good when you conquer it! Race sweatshirts have been known to be the swag as you enter the late fall and approaching winter months.
