Long Time Race Director/Promoter Passes

The running community has lost a long time race director and promoter, Gary “Butch” Cary.
Below is information that was copied from the City of Oglesby’s Facebook page.
Rest In Peace Gary.

The city extends its most sincere condolences to the family of Oglesby Electric Commissioner Gary “Butch” Carey. Carey died today at a Rockford hospital from complications after knee replacement surgery. Mayor Don Finley, who called Carey “the heart and soul of Oglesby,” has ordered that Walnut Street be lined with flags this week in his honor. Carey served as commissioner for almost 12 years, and will be remembered for Oglesby’s Celebration Days, co-founder of the Turkey Trot and Dannon 10K, and the driving force behind today’s Summer Fun Fest and parade. He will be missed. Please keep Butch’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
